Special Olympics

Natick Public Schools expanded its Special Olympics initiatives by offering a unified track & field program which has been a big success! Unified sports is a program pioneered right here in Massachusetts that brings together students with and without intellectual disabilities through sports. This amazingly successful inclusion program teaches all students teamwork, mutual respect for those who bring different talents and abilities to a team, and helps to foster a spirit of acceptance and inclusion within the schools.

Training for the special event takes place during the school day with preschoolers practicing indoor obstacle courses with their classmates and teachers.  In early June,  the Natick School Day Games are held at the Natick High School track for all the athletes, spectators, and their family members.  This exciting unified track meet will have all of the pageantry and honor of a Special Olympics event, with even our littlest athletes receiving a t-shirt and medal for their participation.

If you have any questions about this program, please contact MaryBeth Kinkead, Preschool Principal at [email protected].
